We are saddened to share that Kevin John Breen (Transportation member) passed away on Sunday, August 22, with his family at his side.

Kevin was a husband to Rhonda Dawe, father to Brandon Breen (Grip) and Denise Breen (Craftservice), father-in-law to Angela Jones-Breen (Craftservice), and grandfather to Emma and Greydon. He was the son-in-law of long-time Transportation member the late John Muir and Doris Muir, brother-in-law to Tim Hilts (Transportation) and uncle to Micheal Hilts (Transportation).

There will be a private ceremony for family and, a celebration of life will be determined at a later date.

John’s wife wanted the membership to know how incredibly proud he was to be an IATSE 873 member and that he loved the people he worked with over the years.

Until We Meet Again

It is with profound sadness and heartache that we announce the passing of Anthony David Parkin on Sunday May 16, 2021 in his 65th year. Anthony leaves behind his beloved wife Jayne Parkin (nee Currie) of 18 years, and his children Jessica, Caitlin (Hiten), Michael and Brooke. Anthony will be greatly missed by his siblings Lori (Rich), Marisa, Glyn (Jenny), and Allan (Lilli). He will be fondly remembered by many nieces, nephews, extended family, friends and coworkers.

Anthony was born November 21, 1955 in the United Kingdom and immigrated here to Canada in March 1982. He met the love of his life and settled down with his family, making Mississauga his home. Anthony was many things to his family; a Dad, Daddy, Papa and adored Husband to name a few. Anthony will  forever be remembered for his devotion to his family, his wisdom, and his endless advice and laughter. “Anthony would walk into the room and make the furniture laugh.”
Anthony’s presence will be irreplaceable. His family will miss him, adore him and love him forever. He will remain in their hearts and guide them through the rest of their lives.

A special thanks to Anthony’s medical team, Dr. Gillespie in palliative care, Dr. Strevel Oncologist and to the wonderful nursing team from VON who made these past six months a little easier.

We are deeply saddened to inform the Membership of the passing of Constance Laing (Scenic), mother of Anna Laing-Fraser (Scenic) and Michael Laing-Fraser (Grip) on April 7, 2021. John Fraser (Retired Lifetime, Scenic) father to Michael and Anna shares their profound loss.

Constance Laing
January 6th, 1952 to April 7th, 2021

Constance Trieff Laing, loving mother, grandmother and artist, passed away peacefully at home on April 7th, 2021, at the age of 69. She is survived by her loving family; daughter Anna Laing-Fraser; son Michael Laing-Fraser, his partner Isabelle and their son Maximilian; and sister Jennifer Laing.

Born in Cleveland, Ohio on January 6th, 1952 to parents Jack and Helen Laing, Constance spent her childhood exploring the Ohio countryside; swimming, riding bikes, and playing softball. She later studied fine art and illustration at Bradley University in Illinois, the Emily Carr Institute in Vancouver, and Sheridan College in Toronto. 

Mother to Michael (1988) and Anna (1991), Constance was a role model, teacher, coach, and confidant. She will be remembered for early mornings at the barn, for countless extracurricular pick-ups and drop-offs, for evening Scrabble contests, for late night talks and all-night projects, and for unreserved, unconditional love and encouragement through good times and bad. 

In 1994 Constance settled with her children in the community of Uxbridge, Ontario, where for nearly three decades she ran a thriving gilding and finishing studio. Rarely motivated solely by the end product, Constance was devoted to the creative process and drawn to the joy and fulfillment of collaboration. She was a fixture on the Uxbridge Studio Tour and formed lasting friendships through decades of deeply personal commissioned works of art. Her likeness will live on through her iconic copper angels. 

Constance will be fondly remembered by her friends and colleagues in IATSE Local 873, where she was a much-loved member of the Scenic Art department on several major motion picture productions. She will be missed by her peers at the Society of Gilders, whose biannual conferences inspired her toward many stylistic and technical innovations. 

Outside her studio, Constance was a lifelong equestrian. She leaves behind Lemonade, her beloved pony companion of 15 years. She nurtured many pets, and is survived by her cat Scout, who has found a loving new home after his loss. 

Her other passions included neighbourhood walks, 9 holes of golf, and a love of literature. These activities all celebrated lasting and meaningful relationships; barn friends, good neighbours, golf buddies, and book clubs. 

Gone too soon, Constance was enjoying her latest adventure as grandmother to Maximilian, her only competition for most beautiful and engaging smile. In all things, Constance shared her love for life and its pursuits with her family and friends. 

We will cherish the memory of her warmth, her wisdom, and her determination. May she rest in peace. A celebration of her life will take place at a later date.

We grieve his loss but will live with the wonderful memories of a loving husband (Deidre); father (Jesse and his partner Jennifer); friend and mentor.  He will always be remembered for the “Bobism’s “; craft service Bob bacon sandwiches and the way he always had a great story to tell.  

February 15 1974 - September 24 2020 

Passed away unexpectedly at his home on Thursday, September 24, 2020 at the age of 46. Beloved husband of Tanya Laarakkers. Cherished son of Bernice and the late Ron Lee. Loved brother of Randy Lee, Sue Aonso (John), John Lee (Kristi), twin brother Brent Lee (Keri) and predeceased by Lynda Docherty (late Joe). Bryan will be missed by his beloved fur babies Buster and Nora along with his colleagues at IATSE Local 873 & 634, his snowmobile and motocross racing team members and extended family and friends. Visitation will take place at ADAMS FUNERAL HOME 445 St. Vincent Street, Barrie on Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Due to COVID restrictions there will be no formal service held. We are saddened to inform the Membership on the unexpected passing of Kathy Vieira, Member of the Costume Department.

Kathy passed away suddenly on Sunday, August 27, 2020. She was known not only for her talent, but also for her positive attitude and caring generosity towards others. She will be missed by many.

Our sincerest condolences to her family and friends. A celebration of life, loves and accomplishments for Kathy Vieira, who will be held once we are able to have safe gatherings. The Union will inform the Membership once more details become available.

Tim passed away on Saturday, September 5, 2020. He leaves behind his loving wife Carole, daughter Melissa and sons Tyler and Kyle, his mother Jean, sister Bonnie, and brother Stephen.
