BARKLEY, Douglas Hammond
With heavy hearts we announce the sudden passing of Doug Barkley at home in Dwight, Ontario Tuesday, October 17, 2017 with his childhood friend and sweetheart, who became his loving partner Sherry Wood, by his side. It is fitting that Doug passed away in Dwight where he spent happy childhood summers at the family cabin. Doug was born in Toronto on September 21, 1953 and grew up in Oakville. He went to Brantwood, New Central, OTHS and Appleby College. After working with kids at Blue Hills and Syl Apps, Doug, always charming and loving people, truly found his calling working for 20+ years in Transportation in the Movie Industry. Doug was a free spirit who truly loved his family and friends. He was a guy who could go anywhere, make friends or someone would know him, and they'd have a laugh. Doug was predeceased by his always supportive parents Harold and Rosalind Barkley. He leaves behind his cherished partner Sherry, his best pals in his two siblings Sharon (Chris) and Rob/Bert (Karen), his children whom he loved, Samantha and Mathew, his granddaughter Leanna, and nephews Peter, Stephen and niece Kate, in addition to all his "adopted" Wood family including "brother" Larry and the next Wood generations....Heather, Caroline, Nicole, Ryan, Shelly, Ocean, River, Lake, Brooke and Greyson. He will be dearly missed by his extended family and friends, and never forgotten. Cremation has taken place, and Doug's life was celebrated Saturday, October 21, 2017 at his favourite place in the world, the cabin on the banks of the Oxtongue River in Dwight. The Oxtongue River was a metaphor for Doug's life -- often rough, rushing and rocky and sometimes very smooth, calm, quiet and peaceful. A special thanks to the Station 20 Fire department and the officers who responded when Doug's big heart stopped. As an expression of sympathy, memorial donations to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, or your Local Humane Society would be appreciated. Letters of condolence and memories can be emailed to Remembering.Doug64@gmail.com.
